Windows running slow?

Let's start easy. For over 10 years I have heard the same complaint from Windows users: Everything loads slow! Well, this is almost inevitable regardless of what operating system you are using if you don't regularly give your computer necessary tune-ups. In fact, most computer users do not veer from their normal processes -- surfing the web, word processing, gaming -- and over time these uses can just wear down your computer. Think of it from the perspective of another machine you use regularly: your car. If you never changed your oil, checked your tire pressure, or replaced your spark plugs your car's performance would also start to suffer. We perform these regular maintenance tasks to keep our machine running efficiently. You should adopt this same practice with your computer.

The first tip is an easy one: Run through the disk clean up processes on your Windows system. This will allow you to erase any files or programs you don't use (like those pesky programs that came installed on your computer when you bought it), clean out your temporary internet files, and removing old restore points. You can also use this time to defragment your hard drive. Defragmenting your hard drive will rearrange files on your hard drive so similar files and programs are grouped together, making it easier for your computer to process information. I recommend performing these functions monthly, at a minimum, to enhance your computers performance.

Here's the second tip: If your computer continues to run slow, check your task manager. You can access your task manager by pressing ctrl + alt + del. Your task manager allows you to see what processes your computer is running. Sometimes there is a little bugger of a process that is running in the background and slowing things down. You can disable this process, but in the long run you may want to remove this application all together.
